Cartagena, Colombia

If you’ve ever thought about visiting Colombia, don’t ever think twice about stopping in Cartagena. The seaside city has it all: Carribbean beaches, colonial architecture, vibrant nightlife, a growing foodie scene and coffee that’s out of this world.

While there’s lots to see and do within the walls of the old town that’s deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the best things to do is just get lost in the streets. There’s an Instagrammable moment at every corner.

In Cartagena, there’s no shortage of beautiful hotels set in colonial buildings. Casa La Factoría is our top pick. It has everything you need in a hotel and more. It’s impeccably designed, centrally located, extremely clean, and the service is top notch. Top that off with great value for your money and you’ve got the absolute perfect stay.

Colombian coffee is like no other. Our favourite place to indulge is Café Época: a cozy spot for a great morning (and afternoon) coffee. Every cup is served by a barista who carefully makes the specialty coffee right at your table and explains the entire process. It’s so good, you’ll even want to take a bag of beans back home with you.

While you’re there, enjoy a traditional Colombian breakfast.

For a glimpse into local Colombian life, head just outside the old town to Bazurto Market - a huge, bustling market of the freshest fish, meat and produce. This market isn’t for every tourist, though. And you definitely won’t find many of them here. But if you’re feeling adventurous, we can book a tour for you with a local guide who will help you navigate through one of the richest, cultural experiences you’ll get in Cartagena.

While you won’t do much shopping here, you will get a real taste of Colombia. You'll find exotic fruits that you’ll never find in the grocery store, oranges that never quite turn orange, and avocados twice the size of any avocado you’ve ever eaten.

Don’t miss a chance to eat at the infamous Anthony Bourdain recommended Restaurante Cecilia.

Be sure to stop for a freshly squeezed juice made with your choice of fruit. Now’s your chance to try one of those fruits you probably don’t recognize.
